Lewis Tan – Cannes Portfolio Shoot
I photographed actor Lewis Tan in Cannes during the film festival, creating a small set of portraits before a red carpet event he was attending later that day. The aim was to capture his playful, relaxed energy while still keeping the images clean, cinematic and red-carpet ready.
Lewis Tan — Cannes Portrait Session
Creative Direction
Mood
Playful, confident and approachable – portraits that feel like a genuine moment between events, not a stiff promo shoot.
Style & Lighting
Natural light where possible, with subtle shaping to keep things flattering
Clean, minimal backgrounds to keep focus on expression and attitude
Framing that sits comfortably between editorial and personal portraiture
Wardrobe & Feel
We worked with what Lewis already had with him – keeping the styling true to how he actually dresses, rather than trying to reinvent him. The focus was on expression, posture and presence.
Shooting Approach
With time limited, I kept the setup simple:
Location: around the villa in Cannes – terraces, interiors and clean architectural lines
Pacing: fast, minimal fuss, keeping Lewis relaxed and moving rather than over-posing
Direction: light prompts instead of rigid poses, to let his personality and humour come through
The result is a set of portraits that feel lived-in and real, rather than over-produced.
Outcome
The final selects give Lewis a bank of portraits that work across:
social media and personal branding
festival coverage and press features
future portfolio use
For me, it sits in that space I like most – cinematic but honest, where the personality leads and the photography quietly supports it.
